How to practise

  1. 1

    Record and listen back

Uncomfortable, but the single most useful habit. You will hear fillers and rushed endings you never notice while speaking.

  2. 2

    Stand up

Practise the way you perform. Standing changes your breathing and energy, even alone at home.

  3. 3

    Track a few numbers

Words per minute, fillers per minute and time to your main point are objective, and they improve visibly over a few weeks.

Recommended answer structure

3 Points

Best for: presentations and hypotheticals

  1. 1Headline
  2. 2Point 1
  3. 3Point 2
  4. 4Point 3
  5. 5Wrap-up

Promise three things, deliver three things, then summarise. Audiences love a number they can hold on to.

Example answer to “Why sleep is the most underrated performance tool.”

  1. HeadlineSleep makes you sharper in three ways.
  2. Point 1It fixes memory — your brain files what you learned today.
  3. Point 2It fixes mood — you handle stress far better after eight hours.
  4. Point 3It fixes focus — attention drops fast after one short night.
  5. Wrap-upMemory, mood, focus: all free, every night.

FAQ

How can I practise public speaking alone?+

Use timed impromptu drills, record yourself, and review one thing at a time. Speak Unprompted automates the timer, recording and feedback.

How do I stop being nervous?+

Nerves shrink with exposure. Frequent short reps — even alone — teach your brain that speaking without preparation is survivable.

What should I measure?+

Pace (120–160 WPM is comfortable), filler words per minute, long pauses, and how quickly you reach your main point.
